Lyrics:
__________________________________________________
Dust glitters, vanishing with the light
As motel shades close out the day
Television shines, shadows dance across pale green curtains
Across stale sheets and hopeful flesh

What will you think of the monster you’ve become
When you come face to face with yourself in someone else

Smoke ebbs over the dark green carpet
Stained with blood, sweat, and coffee
Your head leans back, your eye roll
Teeth clench a tongue till blood runs to the floor

What will you think of the monster you’ve become
When you come face to face with yourself in someone else

Evil born of good intentions
Closed my eyes and nearly fainted

By order of entrance, the speaking parts:

Woman: “As an apricot tree stands out in the forest, my lover stands above the young men in town. All I want is to sit in his shade, to taste and savor his delicious love. He took me home with him for a festive meal, but his eyes feasted on ME! Oh give me something refreshing to eat, and quickly! Apricots, raisins, anything- I’m about to faint with love! His left hand cradles my head, and his right arm encircles my waist.” -Song of Solomon

Man: “Get up my dear friend, fair and beautiful lover. Come to me! Look around you. Winter is over. The winter rains are over. They’re gone. Spring flowers are in blossom all over. The whole world’s a choir and singing. Spring warblers are filling the forest with sweet arpeggios. Lilacs are exuberantly purple and perfumed, and cherry trees fragrant with blossoms. Oh get up my dear friend, my fair and beautiful lover! Come to me! Come, my shy and modest dove. Leave your seclusion and come out into the open.” -Song of Solomon

Man: “Some time later he fell in love with a woman in the Valley of Sorek. Her name was Delilah. The Philistine tyrants approached her and said, ‘Seduce him. Discover what’s behind his great strength, and how we can tie him up and humble him. Each man’s company will give you 100 shekels of silver.’ So Delilah said to Sampson, ‘Tell me, dear, the secret of your great strength, and how you can be tied up and humbled.’ ” -Judges

Gossip Boy: “One late afternoon David got up from taking his nap, and was strolling on the roof of the palace. From his vantage point on the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was beautiful! David sent up to ask about her and was told, ‘It’s Bathsheba, daughter of Eliam, and wife of Uriah the Hittite.’ David sent his agents to get her. After she arrives, he went to bed with her! This occurred during the time of purification following her period. Then she returned home. Before long she reaized she was pregnant. Later she sent word to David: ‘I’m pregnant!’ David then got in touch with Joab: ‘Send Uriah…’ ” -2 Samuel

Man: “Kiss me full on the mouth! Yes! For your love is better than wine, headier than your aromatic oils. The syllables of your name murmur like a meadow-brook. No wonder everyone loves to say your name. Take me away with you. Let’s run off together in elopement with my king-lover! We’ll celebrate. We’ll sing. We’ll make great music.Yes! For your love is better than vintage wine. Everyone loves you, of course, and why not!?” -Song of Solomon

I wrote the lyrics to this song on 1/27/2003, 10/3/2003, and 11/10/2003. The bulk of them were initially written for comedic creepiness factor. Then the chorus was written and it took on a new life. I finished this recording and mix all alone in two days in August 2008.

Every voice and instrument is me, save a crash cymbal sample I borrowed from my roommate. I apologize for the banjo performance. I didn’t have patience for a perfect take. Perhaps its saunter adds to its charm. I came up with the intro on a whim. I wanted to quote some of the seedier and some of the more beautiful sex-themed Bible passages taken from The Message version, and then let you into the room to judge the people.

A rant against gossip? An example of the pleasure and seduction of sin? A blurry picture of an elicit love affair? You decide.
